Confessions of a Blogger: Inside the Head of MyFinessedLife

Hey finessees! For the next 7 days, I will be participating in a miniblog challenge being hosted by Joi over at RxFitnessLady.  Go check her out. The first challenge is to either create a mini commercial (do wha?!) or create a blog confessional.  Staying true to myself, I choose to air it out.

I AM SO WINGING THIS!
I've been blogging for a little over 6 mos.  I am still in the trial and error of making MyFinessedLife a brand.  Lately, I've been completely blank for material.  Sorry for that, but I only want to put stuff out here that I feel good about.

I AM NOT ACTIVE ENOUGH ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The only tried and true way to build a following is through social media interaction.  I really need to up my social media game on facebook, twitter, instagram, bloglovin, and pinterest.

I WISH I BLOGGED MORE CONSISTENTLY
I never realized consistency was important until it affected my traffic…in a negative way. Sometimes, I used to write a blog each week, while other times I would write five blog posts a week.  I definitely get more looks when I am consistent.

SOME OF THESE SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS ARE PHONY, MEANIES, AND SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT THEY STARTED THE SAME AS THE REST OF US.

I AM BAFFLED BY THE NUMBER OF CRAPPY BLOGS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL.
I'm into esthetics and if your blog doesn't have a visually pleasing flow, I cannot follow.  If you use bad grammar 247/365...I can't.

I AM VERY FRUSTRATED BY THE LACK OF FEEDBACK MY BLOG GETS.
I've read so much on how to improve this.  Been there done that, still no feedback.  Even more frustrating is there are a few blogs that I read, comment regularly and I get nada in return. TEARS

BLOGGING INTERFERES WITH LIFE
Everything takes the back seat to blogging.  It is difficult to juggle a full time job and home while blogging.  Kudos to those of you that have found balance.

I HAVE A BITCHY REST FACE
My neutral facial expression is often read as a stank face.  People get over it.  It ain't changing nor will I put on a plastic smile to make you feel better about your situation.  IJS

I CANNOT STAND A BROWN NOSER No explanation needed.

  1. I read, but have been too lazy to comment!! :/

I'll try to add some input!!

  2. LOL!!! I definitely have a smile that lights up a room but otherwise you don't know where I am coming from. At my son's football practice I sit in the car frowning through my sunglasses at the heat and sunshine. Last week I said I better get out and talk to the ladies 'cause I already know' they think I am stuck up. I've been blogging since 2010 I think. For a whole year or more I had one or two comments to a post. I started meeting people and consistently getting readers when I linked up to blog hops. I don't link up so much anymore but some people stayed with me. That's true readership and it does take a lot of work to establish it. Best wishes and hang in there! Remember why you started blogging in the first place.

    1. Kenya, consistency is a problem. I know I need to work on it. I've done blog hops, but truly feel that they are a waist of time. Perhaps I will give it another try. Can you recommend a few good ones?

    2. I met Joi on a blog hop that doesn't exist anymore. So that's something because I'm meeting a brand new group of people today. If you want to start small - check out the 5 minute brain dump on Sundays - it's a small group of people and they return the read favor http://janasthinkingplace.com/

A bigger group - Monday Listicles if you like the prompt http://www.northwestmommy.com/category/monday-listicles

      Finish the Sentence Friday: http://www.canigetanotherbottleofwhine.com/

      Sunday Sync - http://www.dawns-disaster.com/

The secret is to get in early. If you don't like the prompt skip it because your post won't be exciting. Find one, give it your best shot and meet and greet. I'm not a consistent blogger. On average I would say I post twice a week, no specific day. Sometimes i get on a roll. Hope that helps. I've passed on some that looked good because their button was ugly though ;-)

    3. Kenya Thanks! I am setting reminders in my phone to try these...

  3. Haha. My ex sister-in-law had the stank face. I knew her better to know that she wasn't upset with people, that was just her demeanor.
As for the feed back, it's always hard to tell what will get a reader to comment. I think that about 1/3 of my readrs comment while the rest just read. And that's okay. But it would be nice if there were a sure fire solution.
I agree that it is kind of weird what makes a blog become popular. There are a couple of blogs that I can't figure out for the life of me how they got so many followers.

    1. Veronica, my stank face often gets me a bad wrap. I'm gonna figure this blog thing out and stop winging it soo much. Don't tell anyone, but I don't have a post for tomorrow yet! 0_0 Thanks for checking in.

    1. Hey Yum Yucky! I like the name! I haven't made it around to all the posts on #mbc but I will come by I promise. Glad you stopped by.

  5. Join a group like SITS Girls and become more engaged on social media to increase traffic and feedback on your blog. I've stopped by your blog a few times and have enjoyed your blog each time. Show support in groups and I can almost guarantee your readership will improve. Love your confessions. Andrea #mbc

  6. HA!!! I love your directness and I agree with so much of what you're saying here!!! Thank you for your honesty - that's what I love about bloggers:-)...well, the good ones!!

  7. You have made my day with this video! I get accused of looking mean all the time! I have it too! Ditto what Andrea at Be Quoted said. It's about following and engaging the right people! I am so glad to have you again for the #MBC! Thank you!

    1. Ha! I'm glad you like the video. My mom hates this video. She tells me to stop owning it and show people that I am not what they assume. I am working on being more engaging on social media. Just not the easist thing.

  8. I agree with some of your comments. Personally, I didn't see my traffic improve until I started writing consistently and participating in hops and the like. It takes a lot of time and there are weeks when I choose not to do any socializing.

Apparently I have something referred to as the "scary look." I guess it's true because I've been told by people at work and at home. Know I know to call it "stank face" hahahaha

    1. Hey Lydia. There are so many of you that do the stank face! I love it!!!! I am working on being more social. Someone just told me about IFTT, which is a trigger that I can set to post in all social medias when I post a new blog. Sounds like what I need.

  9. I hear you, Veronica. I respond to every comment made on my blog. I also try to visit back. I get that there may not be time for that if you have a large following, but it takes 20 seconds to respond to a comment someone took the time to make. As for crappy successful blogs - I think it's because they are super engaged on social media. But I don't get it either. Great confessions - I admire your honesty!

    1. Hey Dana! I guess I better get SUPER engaging huh. That seems to be the advice I'm getting from you guys. I'm on it. Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Haha! I Love the bitchy resting face bit! Hilarious! I definitely think blogging consistently and using social media is important (not like I'm a big blogger so take this with a grain of salt!). Also, I heard about 5% of your followers actually comment on your blog (or so we can hope). AND, I blogged and commented FOREVER before I got comments. You gotta find your tribe (aka your mutual blog friends). You'll do it! Keep at it!

    1. Britton I think that's where I am challenged most. I don't have a tribe. All of you lovely ladies are fitness/nutrition/healthy living bloggers. I found Joi through a blog hop and the rest of you through her. Whadda ya know I love your blogs but it's not my niche. I feel as if there is this unspoken competition between lifestyle blogs and they aren't so friendly? But I am gonna reach out again. Maybe I can make friends this time.

  11. Yes Veronica, Yes!

I AM BAFFLED BY THE NUMBER OF CRAPPY BLOGS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL.This, too, is my confession. I was angry when I published my confessions and realized I didn't put this on the list. I was done, so I wasn't going back to add it in. I am amazed by this myself. Poor grammar, misspellings, run ons...makes it difficult for me to follow. I'm happy to have found you & now I'm your newbie follower. Your confessions are spot on. #MBC

    Cheers!

    1. Caria, Hey! You too have a new follower. I actually stalked your blog over a sandwich today. I like what you're doing over there. See you again soon.

  12. Bitchy Rest Face - I love it! I think I have one of those too. You have no idea idea how many times random strangers tell me, "Smile!" I'm not mad, or upset, usually just in deep thought. For a while I would try to force myself to have a more "friendly" look (slight smile with no teeth), but then I looked like someone who had just had botox injections - it just wasn't natural.
I've heard stories about how many successful bloggers have stank attitudes. I would like to attend one of those blogger conventions, but I'm afraid of encountering the phoniness, mean attitudes, and cliques.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They either say smile or aww it's not that bad is it? I don't think I am convention ready. I don't do cliques and that's the first thing that comes to mind. I have no desire to be made to feel as if I am back in high school.

  13. I HATE when people tell me to smile and that I look mean when I feel I'm just looking normal *rolls eyes*! I also don't like when bloggers don't comment back after I visit their blog a couple of times...I don't come back! Aesthetics are important to me too and if your blog doesn't look good or does't flow well, I usually don't read.

  14. I love this video! I fall into this category, people usually mistake me for being a B*tch or stuck up, but it's just my resting face. I commend you for your honesty about everything. As for crappy blogs, i'm sure it's like others have said, they are active on social media for sure (but that it what it appears to be). #MBS

    1. Hey Kalley! Welcome. As I look at your avitar, I don't see b or stuck up....you're actually pretty good at smeyezing as Tyra Banks would say. Let's stay connected. I am really working hard to build relationships

  15. Well, I'm glad no-one is in the office next to me cuz I had a very hearty laugh at that video! Thanks for sharing it.

I too am amazed by the crappy blogs that have a bazillion followers. If the grammar is icky... I just can't. Worse if the design tanks.

But for more followers, I've found that the more I interact, comment, follow on social media, the more I get in return. It takes a while, and yes, it takes time, but it eventually pays off.

    2. Thanks for the compliment on the teeth! Go for it re: social media. Choose the one you like most and try to post stuff in addition to your own posts every day, even if it's a #FF on Fridays or a S/O to some of us who participated in Joi's party. We're bound to respond. We love us some interaction!

  16. Hahaha Veronica! I LOVE your confessions!! I'm with you on the big bloggers acting "brand new", as my kids like to say, lol! You're like me, your.blog.has.to.be.pleasing.to.the.eyes for it to catch my attention! And yours definitely is, btw! Love the soft, sleek look! I must confess also that I'm a slacker when it comes to social media. Oh well, I'll get better! ;-) Thanks so much for dropping by! I'll be following you via social media, so you can count on me to give you some feedback, lol! ;-) Thanks for dropping by! #MBC. I invite you to stop by on Wednesdays(today), lol, for my "Doing YOU WELL Wednesday" linky-party. Have a wonderful evening!
