Sometimes You Just Do and Hope it Rubs Off

Whew it's day six of Joi's Mini Blog Challenge and I'm still here!  If you follow me, then you know this is major that I have blogged 6 days straight.  Today's challenge is to discuss what your family thinks of your blog.

Mom & Dad
Right off the bat I knew my mom and dad would support and/or read MyFineessedLife.  My dad supports, mom reads and supports.  Their support was a given. If I told them I wanted to sell bacteria to a germaphobe they'd tell me I'm crazy, but cheer me on nonetheless.  That's the type of parents they are.  They ride or die.  As a result I have a strong sense of loyalty and  it is one of the more important qualities that I look for in people that I keep close to me.  Do they get it?  Absolutely not, but it won't stop them from supporting.

My Brother
While he may be as ride or die as mom or dad, he is not reading ish!  LOLBVS.  He subscribed and that's about it.  His motto "GET THAT PAPER SIS" and don't let it interfere with my free dental work.

My Daughter
Mommy I will help you.
You should make it pink.
Mommy please write about Cinderella and sparkles.

My Husband
The hubs thinks my blog is awesome and encourages me to do it more. Additionally, he gifted a blog makeover to me. I was so touched that he offered to pay to do it.  It's the little stuff like that shows me he is in it for the long haul.  He states it is the perfect outlet for my creative side. He often suggests, that I should post more about design, home life, decor and my DIY's.  He's right but I never remember to take pics!  A room makeover w/o pics just doesn't work.  Here are some projects that I've done or have going here and here.

All in all, I get nothing but love and support from my family.  When I first started blogging, I posted my intentions (see here).  In addition to reasons listed on my very first post, I would love for this blog to branch into some sort of e-commerce. I've always been willing to try things and fail where as, my family not so much.  I really hope it inspires them to think outside of the box and do something. Thus the name of this post.

TTYL and thnx for reading.

TBT: MyFinessedLife 10 years ago.

Hey Finessees! It's Day 4 of Joi at RxFitnessLady's  Mini Blog Challenge.

Today's challenge is Throwback Thursday.  Blogging was no where on the radar.  However if I was, here's a pictorial of my life 10 years ago.

I started a new chapter in my life with this dude right here.... Please ignore my eyebrows  (WOW).

We moved from Manhattan:

To NJ:

It was sooo dangerous living above a retail center.

And I was a relative newbie at doing this......

What were you doing 10 years ago?

Humor on Hump Day!!!!

Hey Finessees! It's Day 3 of Joi at RxFitnessLady's Mini Blog challenge.  Today she asked us to keep it light and airy.  So I am serving up just what the PharmDoc ordered.  Besides who doesn't love a good chuckle.

For my fellow science nerds out there!

Oh I Didn't Mean it Like That......

Hey Finessees! I'm back for day 2 of Joi's Mini Blog Challenge Party.  Cause I like to partay hey hey hey!!!! Today we are challenged to discuss something controverisal.  So finessees, I would like to share with  you racial comments or reactions that I receive more often than not at work.

First a little background.  I attended Howard University for undergraduate, and New York University College of Dentistry.  Post graduation, I became faculty at NYU's dental school for approximately 5years.  Currently I work in two different offices one on Park Ave (high end---think Forbes) and Tribeca (think NY urban hipster -new money).  Additionally, I am on the only practicing African American in both offices.

Office mates having discussion on cars:
Dr. X: I've had all different color cars
Me:  I prefer dark color cars navy or black/ always black interiors.
Dr. X:  Oh like camoflauge LOL
Me:  Blank stare instant mean mug on my face
Dr. X: Oh c'mon I didn't mean it like that
Me: So how exactly did you mean it?  Sucks teeth and says GTFOHWTHBS

Patient discovering it's me doing their treatment.
Patient not pleased to discover
Me: Morning patient x. Any changes in your health? What's bothering you today?
Patient: Oh I'll wait to tell the dr.
Me: You're on my schedule.
Patient: Oh,YOU'RE NOT THE ASSISTANT?
Me: No
Patient: Crickets. Nooo you're the assistant
Me: Not for the past 13 years sweetie.

Patient dismissing my recommendations.
Me: Sir you have xyz disease.  The standard of care is.....
Patient: Huh? No way.  I want the Dr. to come in and have a look.
Me: -_-  Well, we can take you to the front desk for an eval with someone else.
Patient: No I will wait to see someone today.  I'm paying to see a dr not a tech.
Me: Le sigh

One day while walking down the hall with my own patient, a patient calls from the room to me:
Patient:  Excuse me young lady can you be a dear and call my driver and tell him I'm ready.
Me: -_- Pardon me? I didn't hear you I was talking to MY PATIENT
Patient: Repeats herself.

Random comments patients have made (none ever related to dentistry):
You're a pretty little black girl.
Are you mixed with something? How does your hair look like that?
Your ring is nutz? Is your husband bla?  Yes he stopped himself mid phrase.
You speak really well. You're not a New Yorker. What is that accent?

I could go on and on...why bother?  The sad truth of the matter is that  most people continue to make racial presumptions .  Often my professionalism is tested. All I can say is I am thankful to know and love the LORD!  LOLBVS

Confessions of a Blogger: Inside the Head of MyFinessedLife

Hey finessees! For the next 7 days, I will be participating in a miniblog challenge being hosted by Joi over at RxFitnessLady.  Go check her out. The first challenge is to either create a mini commercial (do wha?!) or create a blog confessional.  Staying true to myself, I choose to air it out.

I AM SO WINGING THIS!
I've been blogging for a little over 6 mos.  I am still in the trial and error of making MyFinessedLife a brand.  Lately, I've been completely blank for material.  Sorry for that, but I only want to put stuff out here that I feel good about.

I AM NOT ACTIVE ENOUGH ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The only tried and true way to build a following is through social media interaction.  I really need to up my social media game on facebook, twitter, instagram, bloglovin, and pinterest.

I WISH I BLOGGED MORE CONSISTENTLY
I never realized consistency was important until it affected my traffic…in a negative way. Sometimes, I used to write a blog each week, while other times I would write five blog posts a week.  I definitely get more looks when I am consistent.

SOME OF THESE SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS ARE PHONY, MEANIES, AND SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT THEY STARTED THE SAME AS THE REST OF US.

I AM BAFFLED BY THE NUMBER OF CRAPPY BLOGS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL.
I'm into esthetics and if your blog doesn't have a visually pleasing flow, I cannot follow.  If you use bad grammar 247/365...I can't.

I AM VERY FRUSTRATED BY THE LACK OF FEEDBACK MY BLOG GETS.
I've read so much on how to improve this.  Been there done that, still no feedback.  Even more frustrating is there are a few blogs that I read, comment regularly and I get nada in return. TEARS

BLOGGING INTERFERES WITH LIFE
Everything takes the back seat to blogging.  It is difficult to juggle a full time job and home while blogging.  Kudos to those of you that have found balance.

I HAVE A BITCHY REST FACE
My neutral facial expression is often read as a stank face.  People get over it.  It ain't changing nor will I put on a plastic smile to make you feel better about your situation.  IJS

I CANNOT STAND A BROWN NOSER No explanation needed.

Fashion Friday: Getting my Chic Beach On

Hey Finessees! The fam and I are headed to Bethany Beach in Rehobeth, DE. As a result I decided to do a MyFinessedLife beach edition.  Aside from snacks, the packed cooler of drinks, my iPad, chairs, blankets and umbrella, here are my beach essentials:

1) I bought this Mara Hoffman cover up for my recent holiday to Maui. So flipping cute and can easily be rocked with a white tank and skinny jeans on a cooler summer day. 2) Kate Spade Sun Hat.  My hair easily changes color in the sun.  I am not fond of the color (ashy brown that looks soooo dry). 3) Forever21 Tribal cut out one pice (Sold out but similar here).  Major score at $24! And the back of this suit is sooo damn sexy.  See my instagram for a pic. 4) Target.com Mossimo multicolored straw bag.  5) Tory Burch Flip Flops-  surprisingly comfortable since most trendy flips are not. 6) Sunscreen an absolute must 7&8) MAC 'Mineralize' Blush and Lip Gloss to enhance my beachy glow 9) I never leave home without Benefit's They're Real mascara.

When Fashion and Decor Collide : Color Blocking.

Hey Finessees!  Currently I am having a moment with all things color blocked! This trend has been so hot, it is popping off everywhere! There are so many ways you can rock a color-blocked look. Try it in small doses with purses or a top and skirt combo. But you can also dare to go bold with a head-to-toe color-blocked outfit.  Take a look at all the ways I found color blocking:
